TOOL-05 · BOLT CALCULATOR

Bolted connection to Eurocode Table 3.4.

Pick the bolt, property class, plate thickness and edge distances: the calculator checks shear, bearing, tension and their interaction, and shows what governs.

CALCULATION WITH NUMBERS
    Order a full analysis

What it covers and what it does not. A single bolt, category A (shear) and D (non-preloaded tension). Bearing for an end bolt; it does not check punching shear, block tearing, eccentric bolt groups or slip-resistant joints. A whole joint needs connection design in IDEA StatiCa or SolidWorks Simulation.

    02 / METHOD

    How it calculates

    01

    Shear

    Fv,Rd = αv · fub · A / γM2: through the thread A = As, αv 0.6 (4.6, 5.6, 8.8) or 0.5 (10.9).

    02

    Bearing and tension

    Fb,Rd = k1 · αb · fu · d · t / γM2; Ft,Rd = 0.9 · fub · As / γM2; together Fv/Fv,Rd + Ft/(1.4·Ft,Rd) ≤ 1.

    03

    Checked

    M16 8.8: Fv,Rd = 60.3 kN, Ft,Rd = 90.4 kN; M20 8.8: 94.1 and 141.1 kN, as in Eurocode reference tables.
