I am a mechanical design engineer. Every day I do the same thing: take a task that exists as a photo, a sketch on a napkin or the sentence «we need something like this», and turn it into a document package the shop can cut, bend, weld and paint from.

The difference between drawing something and engineering it is measured simply — by how many questions the shop asks after receiving the drawings. No questions means the job is done. If the structure had to be «fixed by welding on site», it was not.

So while modelling I keep in mind the things a render never shows: whether the welder's torch can physically reach that joint, whether that profile exists in the standard stock range, what bend radius this sheet thickness will survive, where the zinc will flow during hot-dip galvanising and where it needs a drain hole.

I am among the top 50 CSWP-certified engineers in Ukraine. That is not a title but the result of eight Dassault Systèmes exams — each one testing not interface knowledge but the ability to build a working model under time pressure.

Two kinds of task reach me most often. First: «we have an idea or a sample — we need documentation to manufacture it». Second: «we have drawings from someone else, the shop refuses to work with them — please sort this out».

The second happens more often than it should, and the cause is almost always the same: the structure was drawn without asking a process engineer. Hence dimensions that do not exist in stock ranges, welds in unreachable places, and tolerances nobody needs that only raise the price.

Materials I work around most often: S235JR and S355J2 for load-bearing structures, AISI 304 where stainless is required, AlMg3 when weight is critical. Finishing is hot-dip galvanising or powder coating; both demand their own decisions at the model stage.

Documentation is issued to ISO for export orders, or to DSTU-2293 and GOST 2.109 for Ukrainian manufacturers. The bill of materials comes in whatever format suits you.

Education: Bachelor's degree with honours from Khmelnytskyi National University, plus a rector's commendation. Three wins at the Ukrainian National Student Olympiad in Energy Management; results published by Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

A simple model takes 3–5 days. 3D together with a full documentation package takes 2–3 weeks. Rush mode is 24–72 hours, with a surcharge agreed separately.

There may be no written specification at all: in the Full cycle package we write it together, starting from function, loads and budget. If the project is confidential I sign an NDA before discussing details, working from your template.
