A 3-metre-tall wardrobe that fits its niche and lights up inside

A mitred walnut-veneer carcass, mirror doors in black aluminium frames, glass shelves with lighting that move without wires, and a leather drawer. A clash-checked model and drawings for the workshop.

THE BRIEF

What had to be delivered

DWG-391
BRIEF
ШФ.3012 · 2026

A wardrobe for a 3010 mm niche: full-height double mirror doors, LED glass shelves, a drawer, all corners mitred and hidden fixings.

My part: the model, a section through the shelves and lighting, the top corner detail, a layout with references, and hardware that can really carry 2980 mm doors.

ENGINEERING CONSTRAINT

What made it non-trivial

DWG-392
CONSTRAINTS
4 ITEMS

Two items in the brief could not physically work, and that had to be found before fabrication.

A 25 mm overlay is impossible. Aluminium-frame hinges give 17 mm at most (A = 4.5 + 12.5 − D per the Hettich catalogue). The doors overlap 14 mm and a metal angle covers the rest.

The carcass will not enter the niche assembled. Its 3037 mm diagonal exceeds the 3010 mm niche, so it is assembled on site: the top slides in from the front on the mitres, three hidden brackets per corner.

Heavy doors. A 2980 mm mirror leaf weighs 20.9 kg: six Sensys 8638i hinges per leaf and a mid-rail in the frame against bowing.

Shelf lighting without wires. Loox5 24 V busbars in the side panels and spring contacts in the shelves: a shelf can move to any height and still lights up.

SOLUTION

How I solved it

DWG-393
METHOD
5 STEPS

The model is built from real hardware systems, and the drawing sections are cut from the model itself.

01

25 mm veneer carcass with 45° mitres and hidden 20 × 20 × 3 brackets in every corner

02

Doors: 4 mm mirror glass in a black anodised 20 × 19 frame with a mid-rail

03

Hettich Sensys 8638i aluminium-frame hinges, D = 3 mounting plate, 14 mm overlay

04

Glass shelves in aluminium frames with LED, Loox5 busbars in the sides, Blum TANDEM drawer in leather

05

Sections are cut from the STEP as true sections; automated drawing check: 0 issues on 3 sheets

Both impossible requirements were found in the model, not in the workshop: the doors got a real overlay and the wardrobe got an assembly method that lets it into the niche.

The drawings come from the same model as the renders, so sheet dimensions and product geometry match.
